well, got the idea of this one, playing Rome: total war, using the spartan hoplites ... *_*

he might be not historically correct, cuz it's kinda hard to find a solid font for this kind of reference ...

he's standing after a battle, resting, figuring out what to do, stuff like that :P ... the only parts really colored are the arms, neck and legs, the shield i just applied the color, but did not give it the real treatment ...

well, i'll update it during this week, comments apreciated :)

** edit **

done some pieces of his armor .. i'll adjust the contrast, and some problems with shadow and lighting these days ..

** edit 2 **

some more stuff o.o

** edit 3 **

i've changed the shield, this is the model, i still gona paint over it (it was a shit to make circles and etc to make it perfect o.o) .. got rid of the breast plate .. i think it's cooler whitout it ...

the spear also is just the base color, still gonna make the details ... and of course, finish the background ...

ps. oh yes, the original size is around 4000x6000, doing it on painter 9, oil brushs ... and this is not the entire piece, there some other stuff and backgrounds ...

Great ..

p.s. maybe you should try with some other color in background (maybe some light yellow or black.. )

Great work... It's good to see another historical illustrator on DA... I actually put out a forum thread asking if there where any others a few months back with the intention of putting a DA "historical art" club together but not one taker emerged...
You might also want to check out ~mayney's stuff [link]

As for reference, Osprey publish some great historical stuff... [link]

Great work, look forward to seeing more...
